TED Plays SoundWave

PDFPrintE-mail

You might say we like to brag about our local Southern California artists --- and on May 16 that's exactly what KLBC.org, KCTY.org and I E News will be doing.  These broadcasting installations at Long Beach City College will present SoundWave 2013, a six hour simulcast focusing on our regional bands here in southern California.

TED, the acoustic bluegrass trio hailing from Long Beach is part of this musical spectacular.  Consisting of guitar, mandolin and upright bass and occasional fiddle, TED plays frequently in the Southern California area.  Weekly appearances on Wednesday evenings at Long Beach's Cafe Ambrosia and Sunday mornings at the popular Alamitos Bay Farmer's Market bring smiles and dancing acoustic enthusiasts to their feet.  The infusion of bluegrass and Irish roots music always is a crowd pleaser as they play EJ Malloy's First Fridays in Long Beach.

TED has also played at The Plough & Stars in San Francisco, Nadine's Irish Mist in Seal Beach,  The Last stage West in Morro Bay and The Frog And Peach in San Luis Obispo.  They recently opened for jazz violinist Christion Howes at the Found Theater in Long Beach.  www.facebook.com/TEDbluegrass

Blues Artist of the Month: Freddie King

PDFPrintE-mail

Freddie King

Born: September 3, 1934 in Gilmer TX

Died: December 28, 1976 in Dallas TX

Blues guitarist Freddie King came up through the ranks of Chicago blues players during the 1950s, but it was during the '60s that King's inspired blend of electric blues, roots rock, and R&B would allow him to outgrow the West Side scene. King's classic instrumental "Hide Away" would be a de facto standard for fledgling blues players for decades. An innovative instrumentalist and underrated singer, King would move beyond blues and soul to make commercial inroads into funk and even soul music. Along the way, he would influence string-benders like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and George Thorogood, among others.
